How to plan the perfect garden party

The complete guide to a party that will wow your guests

Having supplied the goods to a wide variety of events from birthday parties and weddings to corporate sports days and conferences we like to think we have a pretty good idea of what a successful party looks like.

Whilst we do not directly supply everything that is mentioned below, there is no doubt we can help you find the right person who can help. We are not party planners in an official sense however if you would like our expertise to guide you we would be happy to help.

1. Select date and time

Choose a suitable date and time for the garden party. Consider the weather, season, and the availability of your guests.

2. Choose your venue

If you have a spacious garden, that's perfect. Otherwise, consider asking friends or family if they can host the party in their garden. Alternatively, you can rent a venue with a beautiful garden setting.

3. Invite guests

Create a guest list and send out invitations well in advance. You can use traditional paper invitations or digital ones through email or social media.

4. Theme and decorations

Decide on a theme if you want one for the party. Themes can add a fun element and help with decorations. Choose appropriate decorations such as fairy lights, bunting, flowers, and table settings to create a pleasant atmosphere.

5. Food and drinks

Plan a menu that suits the garden setting. Traditional British garden party foods include finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, cakes, and pastries. For drinks, you can serve tea, Pimm's, lemonade, and other refreshing beverages.

6. Entertainment

Organize some entertainment for the party. You can have lawn games like croquet, badminton, or a small soccer game. Consider hiring a musician or setting up a playlist to provide background music.

7. Weather preparations

Being in England, it's essential to have a backup plan in case of rain. Arrange for marquees or gazebos to provide cover in case the weather turns wet.

Depending on the time of year as well as time of day of the event, you may also wish to consider heating.

8. Seating and comfort

Make sure there is enough seating and shaded areas for guests to relax and enjoy the party comfortably.

9. Thank you notes

After the party, send thank-you notes to your guests to express your appreciation for their attendance and company.
